So, one of my quirks when I edit a story for myself is using the words people say. We don't say "etc", we say "etcetera". Or "and so on".

I'm reading a story, and someone is talking about firing his "9mm" which I transcribed as "nine millimeter" and then it occurred to me...

People tend to shorten long words. So would an experienced weapons'-user call it a "nine em-em", or would they actually say "nine millimeter"?

It's only for my eyes, so it doesn't really matter, but I like to be as realistic / accurate as possible. Thanks for indulging my questions.
