personally I think the show's writers failed to take into consideration what Blair declaring himself a fraud would do to his future career options.

Absolutely. But, let's face it, most producers / writers take extreme liberties with realism -- anything they can do to tell the story the way they want it to be. It takes dedicated fandom authors to attempt to fix their plotholes.

Plus they clearly enjoyed keeping the tension level high between Jim and Blair by not having them talk to each other about the dissertation - there wouldn't have been such a melt down if the characters had just talked to each other - especially after ... I think the episode was called Night Watch - which ever one it was where Jim saw the first chapter?

Oh, absolutely. I remember several onlist discussions -- some of them quite passionate -- about how much shit could have been avoided if the guys had simply talked. But again, for TV writers, if logical and sensible actions will prevent storyline angst, logic and sense go right out the window.

I've also never understood why Jim tends to get all the blame for everything...

<g> Because, somewhere along the line, TS fandom in general decided that Blair was an ideal Woobie -- probably a combination of his smaller size, assumed more emotional openness, and not being a big, badass cop. And, if a fan is woobiefying a particular character, whatever shit happens is always the other character's fault. I think it's kind of a phase that most fandoms go through; fortunately, TS seems to be moving past it. But now there aren't so many new stories. Can't win, sometimes.

and I wanted to see of other stories had been written that were more balanced. Didn't get many recs though ...

I see there are more since you wrote this. I hope you find something to your liking.
